Former German minister hurls racist insult at Greek reporter

Greek media widely report that  Former German transport minister Peter Ramsauer directed a pretty unsavoury racial insult at a press photographer he accidentally bumped into him, saying “don’t touch me you filthy Greek” in German, which he repeated in English  (in case he was not understood?).

According to Avgi newspaper, where the bulk of the reports on the incident seem to be based, the Greek photographer was among a number of photographers at at Maximos Mansion, where the meeting between Sigmar Gabriel and Alexis Tsipras took place. Mr Ramsauer was part of the team accompanying the Vice-Chancellor and Economy Minister.

Officials from Tsipras’ office reacted immediately after the incident by lodging a complaint with German diplomats.

The former German minister denied that the incident took place. He said that the Greek journalist was the one that had pounced on him physically, causing bruises. Gabriel’s official photographer however confirmed that the incident had taken place. Members of the German delegation rushed to apologize to the Greek reporter on behalf of Ramsauer.
