Large Cretan wild cat spotted in Lasithi

Authorities on Crete are reportedly on the lookout for a large cat in Lasithi, between  Siteia and Vai after more than 10 locals reported seeing the animal which was described to be about a metre in length.

It is believed that the animal could be an indigenous Cretan wild cat, fourógatos, an endangered animal extinct from most of Crete and very rarely seen.

Police and  volunteer groups have launched an operation to locate, identify and hopefully protect the endangered animal from potential poisoners.
