The 15 walkers trapped in a mountain shelter in Rouvas Forest, Heraklion spent the night there while the rescue services continued their efforts to clear the road of snow.
The alarm was raised on Saturday morning when one of the walkers contacted a Rouva council official.
A snow plough from Agia Varvara municipality was used but it did not reach the shelter before dark when the rescue operation was suspended.
A council officer said that the walkers are all well and they are well equipped with warm clothing and emergency food.
