Tax authorities start checks on short term holiday lets

Greek tax authorities have started checks on short term rental properties according to information published in parakritika.gr.

Letters have been sent out to individuals who rent their properties  though the internet and have not paid tax, asking the owner for an explanation.

According to parakritika.gr, one of these notices  has been sent to a British villa owner in the Vamos area  who has been letting a property for several years asking for the settlement of any outstanding taxes arising from the rental of the property.

About 800 such notices have already been issued, and property owners who make their properties available for short term holiday lets  must register with the tax authorities to avoid stiff financial penalties in the future.
