eKathimerini — A 37-year-old man on Monday was handed a one-year suspended sentence for allegedly beating two dogs to death and burning them, in Serres, northeastern Greece.
He was also ordered to pay a 5,000 euro fine.
The defendant, a municipal employee working at the city pound on a short-term contract, allegedly visited the facility to feed the dogs on Saturday, where, he claimed in court, the dogs attacked him.
Colleagues discovered the dogs’ charred remains and alerted authorities who arrested the 37-year-old. He was also fined 60,000 euros by the municipality.
