Piraeus woman dies in cooking accident

A 57-year-old woman was died at her home in Perama, near Piraeus while cooking on Tuesday,  when her  pressure cooker exploded.

According to news reports the lid of the pressure  cooker flew off causing extremely  serious head injuries to the woman.  She was found in the kitchen by her husband when he returned home from work.  He too collapsed at the sight of his dead wife and the alarm was raised later by the couple’s daughter who became worried after being unable to contact her parents on the phone.

The unnamed woman was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

It is not clear what caused the pressure cooker to explode, but an investigation for a possible manufacturing defect of the cookers safety valve is being carried out.
