The new terminal building of the Vitsentzos Kornaros Airport at Sitia in eastern Crete will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday.
The new terminal, which started operating in July 2015, is hosting a major event, starting at noon, for its official opening in the presence of Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis and of ex-New Democracy leader Yiannis Plakiotakis.
The mayor of Sitia, Theodoros Paterakis, said that “with the official opening ceremony of the new terminal of Sitia airport starts a promising new year for our area. It now is made accessible to the public at a national and European level with a new, modern terminal capable of meeting the needs of the most demanding traveler.”
The terminal has the operational capacity of comfortably processing 750 passengers an hour or an 3 average of flights an hour.
