German airlines Lufthansa included two Greek islands, Santorini and Corfu, to its 2016 summer schedule for Greece.
There will be a weekly flights from Munich to Santorini and Corfu to meet increased passenger demand for these two destinations during the summer.
According to the German company, the flights are expected to start in mid-May 2016 and will continue throughout the summer – and that is good news for the tourist industry of these islands and for Greece.
The airports at Santorini and Corfu are amongst the 14 regional airports the Greek government has sold to German Fraport whose main shareholder is the German state. Coincidently, Lufthansa holds 8.4 of Fraport shares and one of its subsidiaries, Lufthansa Consulting, was engaged by TAIPED, the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund to advise on the sale of the concession of the 14 airports.
