Kissamos man arrested for animal abuse, faces large fines

A man was arrested in Kissamos last Friday and was charged with animal abuse over the treatment of two dogs and five puppies on his land. 
The police intervened after a report by a member of the public wich was supported by the Chania Animal Welfare Association.
The arrested man faces administrative fines totalling several thousand euro.
The animals were removed and are looked after by animal welfare volunteers.
The president of the Chania AWA, Mrs Bobolaki,  thanked the police for their swift and effective action in handling wet another case of animal abuse.
Mrs Bobolaki in her statement points out that Chania police authority has appointed a dedicated officer to monitor and coordinate animal abuse cases, and the AWA has delivered specific training on the implementation of animal welfare legislation.
