Greek MEP booted out for calling Turks ‘wild dogs’

Politico — An extreme-right Greek MEP was thrown out of the European Parliament debating chamber Wednesday for branding Turks “dirty and polluted” and “like wild dogs.”

Eleftherios Synadinos, a member of the Golden Dawn party, was speaking during a debate on Monday’s summit between EU leaders and Turkey when he made the comments, prompting Martin Schulz, the president of the Parliament, to ask him to leave the chamber “immediately” as his comments were a “breach of values.”

Synadinos packed his briefcase and left the chamber, accompanied by parliamentary ushers.

“We have to establish a procedure here where if red lines are crossed we have to declare them unacceptable, particularly with regards to racism,” Schulz said.

According to internal rules of procedure, the president can exclude an MEP “without a second call to order” in exceptional circumstances.
