Flights delayed in Athens int’l airport over security alert

Xinhua — Dozens of flights were delayed in the Athens international airport (AIA) on Sunday between 9:30 and 10:25  over a security alert, local authorities said.

The disruption which delayed flights by an average of 40 minutes,  came as police deemed necessary to further search a female passenger, according to an AIA announcement.

However, when investigators located the passenger, the found she had already embarked on  Aegean flight Α3688 to Madrid which had already taken off.

The flight was diverted to Palma de Mallorca where a thorough search was conducted on all passengers and luggage, without finding anything suspicious. The aircraft continued the journey to Madrid , the Greek airliner said in a press release.
