Court to hear appeal against luxury Crete resort proposals

travelmole.com –A court in Greece will hear an appeal against a UK tour operator’s plans to build a luxury resort in Crete early next month.

Minoan chairman Christopher Egleton said the hearing on July 4 was an ‘indication of the importance being attached to encouraging foreign investments in Greece’.

The company was granted a Presidential Decree, the equivalent of outline planning consent, last year, but this is now being challenged in the court.

Egleton said: “The Company is looking forward to the hearing with confidence in the Greek Justice system, which has already twice confirmed that the Presidential Decree had been lawfully proposed.

“The Company will keep shareholders updated with any further news as soon as it is available”.

The Scottish-based travel firm plans to build up to five, five-star hotels, up to two golf courses and a mariner on 23 kilometres of land in Crete.

Construction costs are estimated to be more than £220 million on the venture which has been planned for 20 years.
