Kathimerini — The Union of Centrists, which entered Greece’s Parliament in general elections last month, has yet to secure an office for the party in the House due to the refusal of former Socialist prime minister Costas Simitis to give up his spacious premises there in exchange for a smaller office.
According to sources, Simitis was asked to vacate his office in Parliament’s central building, which covers 70 square meters, and move to a smaller office in the same building or a larger premises in a different building. Simitis refused, however.
Another former Socialist premier, George Papandreou, meanwhile, agreed to move to a smaller office in Parliament to make room for the new Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis. Voutsis thanked Papandreou for his gesture in a letter.
