According to sources, Simitis was asked to vacate his office in Parliament’s central building, which covers 70 square meters, and move to a smaller office in the same building or a larger premises in a different building. Simitis refused, however.
Another former Socialist premier, George Papandreou, meanwhile, agreed to move to a smaller office in Parliament to make room for the new Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis. Voutsis thanked Papandreou for his gesture in a letter.
