A Navy Special Operations unit destroyed a WWII mine in Rethymnon on Sunday using a controlled explosion.
The mine had been found by a swimmer on 13 Aug at Misiria, Rethimnon at a depth of two meters five metres from the shore. The swimmer immediately alerted the coast guard who sealed the area.
The area was sealed until the bomb disposal experts of the navy unit could safely dispose of the mine.
A few days ago, another WWII bomb was found and was destroyed in the sea at Malia.
