Tsivaras in Apokoronas has the honour of hosting the first solar power water management project in Greece,
Photovoltaic panels on the water reservoir tank of Tsivaras pumping station will provide enough power to operate the pumps, achieving significant power savings.
The Crete Development Organisation [OAK ] announced that the project was completed with funding from the renewable energy fund of the EU with a total budget of 550 000 euro.
The solar powered station is expected to save over 190 MWh a year in diesel generated power, equivalent to 144 tonnes of CO2
