Three road accidents in Chania on Sunday cost the lives of two people and left another three injured.
A pedestrian, a man in his 50s, who was trying to cross the national road at Kalami, near the Parking Café was hit by a car and died on his way to the hospital on Sunday just after 2 in the afternoon.
Around the same time a head on collision at the road to Voukolies – Kandanos left a woman in her 60s dead and two men injured , one of whom suffered critical injuries
At 5:30 a 23 year old woman was taken to hospital after another collision at Voukolies junction. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
As a result of the terrible death toll on the roads of Crete, Kissamos council passed a motion on Friday sending condolences to the families of the victims – a 17 year old moped rider was killed on Friday in Kissamos – and pointed to the need of measures to effectively address the problem. It also voted unanimously to support any campaigns aimed at young people to raise awareness about road safety.
