AMNA — Surgeons at Athens’ KAT hospital were able to reattach a woman’s arm after it was severed in a road accident involving two motorbikes last Wednesday morning, the hospital said on Saturday.
The 20-year-old patient was transferred by helicopter from Heraklion right after the accident with her arm cut off from right over the elbow.
Hospital manager Nikolaos Kontodimopoulos said. “KAT Hospital has a long tradition and experience in dealing with complex and difficult traumas. At the same time, successes like this highlight and demonstrate the great potential of the Public Health System,”
KAT hospital is regarded as the pre-eminent Greek hospital for dealing with accidents and fractures. Its Departments of Hand-Microsurgery-Upper Arm and Vascular Surgery where the surgery took place specialize in orthopedics and trauma.
