Several German newspapers reported last week that Greeks are facing “poor” Christmas holidays, noting that the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has voted for another round of austerity.
Among them “Suddeutsche Zeitung” notes that Greece deserves help in dealing with the refugee crisis, and appeals to Europe for a more lenient treatment towards Greece. The German newspaper also says that the EU behaviour towards its member states is very strange “The EU is promising Turkey high financial aid and even the abolition of visas and Greece in contrast which is suffering from the crisis, is faced with exclusion from the Schengen Treaty because it cannot cope with the situation.“
