While the Aegean islands, the south and Crete were basking in the autumn sunshine on Friday, the west of the country was hit by torrential rain causing damage to the electricity and road networks of Cephalonia and Ithaca, while also flooding a cemetery in Corfu.
Power was restored around 7 p.m. in Cephalonia and Ithaca, where the task of assessing the damage from floods to homes, stores and other infrastructure has started.
Authorities in Athens, meanwhile, said they are sending special equipment to the island of Skopelos in the western Aegean to help the island recover from damage from flooding earlier this week, which took out a large part of the port area and several roads.
