Naftemporiki — Property owners and managers in Greece have until Nov. 30 2018, to register online with the tax office if they’ve leased out accommodation up to and including Aug. 30, 2018. The new platform aiming at taxing increasingly booming revenue from “Airbnb-type” activities is now activated.
Property owners who rent accommodation have until the 20th of the following month to declare their letting.
Failure to do so can lead to fines of up to 5,000 euros, with a doubling of the fine in case of repeat offences.
Greek tax authorities have warned that they are in contact with three major online short-term lease platforms and will derive data from the latter to locate unregistered lets in Greece.
Other means of checking for undeclared rental income are planned, such as on-site inspections and inspectors posing as interested customers.
