Authorities on Crete launched a search operating for a missing French tourist on Saturday.
The 75-year-old man, who was not named, is said to have arrived on his own on the island on October 2.
He booked a room at a hotel in Makrys Gialos in Lasithi.
The day after his arrival, 3 October, he rented a car thought to be a white Nissan reg. YPX-8517 from an Heraklion firm and set off on a tour of the island; that was the last time he was seen.
Hotel staff began to search for him on Friday as he was due to check out.
They entered his room and found that all his belongings were still there.
Hotel staff notified the police but there are no signs of the man or the car he rented.
Police have not yet released a photo of the missing man.
