A hole in the road surface at the popular cafe-lined street of Koum Kapi appeared after the weekend storms. It is thought that wave erosion worn out the ground beneath the road surface causing an 80×30 cm hole to appear. Below, passers by can admire the sea. Chania council inspected the area and cordoned off a section of the road as the damage appears to be extensive.
The council encouraged by local residents and business people in Koum Kapi are looking for ways to repair the coastal road and the neglected sea defenses that run along it.
