Ryanair cancels more flights – ALL Chania winter routes affected

Ryanair
Ryanair announced on Wednesday 27 September that ‘it will slow its growth this winter (Nov 17 to Mar 18), by flying 25 less aircraft’ from November, and 10 fewer aircraft from April 2018. By reducing its flying schedule in this manner Ryanair claims that it will eliminate all risk of further flight cancellations, because slower growth creates lots of spare aircraft and crews across Ryanair’s 86 bases this winter.

The temporary suspension of 34 routes over the winter, includes flights from London Stansted to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Gatwick to Belfast, Newcastle to Faro, and Glasgow to Las Palmas, and all flights  from  Chania to Athens, Thessaloniki and Pafos .

Given the recent government announcements for all year round tourism in Crete , perhaps now is the time for the government to encourage another airline  to step in to the shoes of  Ryan Air, who seems to be doing too well to worry about upsetting 800,000 of its customers.

And I do not recall being on a Ryan Air flight from or to Chania that was not full.

The 34 suspended Ryanair routes from November to March 2018:

1. Bucharest – Palermo 18. Sofia – Castellon
2. Chania – Athens 19. Sofia – Memmingen
3. Chania – Pafos 20. Sofia – Pisa
4. Cologne – Berlin 21. Sofia – Stockholm
5. Chania – Thessaloniki 22. Sofia – Venice
6. Edinburgh – Szczecin 23. Thessaloniki – Bratislava
7. Glasgow – Las Palmas 24. Thessaloniki – Paris
8. Hamburg – Edinburgh 25. Thessaloniki – Warsaw
9. Hamburg – Katowice 26. Trapani – Baden Baden
10. Hamburg – Oslo 27. Trapani – Frankfurt
11. Hamburg – Thessaloniki 28. Trapani – Genoa
12. Hamburg – Venice 29. Trapani – Krakow
13. London Gatwick – Belfast 30. Trapani – Parma
14. London Stansted – Edinburgh 31. Trapani – Rome
15. London Stansted – Glasgow 32. Trapani – Trieste
16. Newcastle – Faro 33. Wroclaw – Warsaw
17. Newcastle – Gdansk 34. Gdansk – Warsaw

Ryanair is also pulling out of its plans to bid for Alitalia, Italy’s bankrupt airline. “In order to focus on repairing this rostering problem this winter, Ryanair will eliminate all management distractions starting with its interest in Alitalia,” the company said.
