The temporary suspension of 34 routes over the winter, includes flights from London Stansted to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Gatwick to Belfast, Newcastle to Faro, and Glasgow to Las Palmas, and all flights from Chania to Athens, Thessaloniki and Pafos .
Given the recent government announcements for all year round tourism in Crete , perhaps now is the time for the government to encourage another airline to step in to the shoes of Ryan Air, who seems to be doing too well to worry about upsetting 800,000 of its customers.
And I do not recall being on a Ryan Air flight from or to Chania that was not full.
The 34 suspended Ryanair routes from November to March 2018:
1. Bucharest – Palermo | 18. Sofia – Castellon |

Ryanair is also pulling out of its plans to bid for Alitalia, Italy’s bankrupt airline. “In order to focus on repairing this rostering problem this winter, Ryanair will eliminate all management distractions starting with its interest in Alitalia,” the company said.
