eKathimerini — Just as the car sales market was expecting the government to announce that it would extend its vehicle-scrapping scheme, subsidizing the new car purchases of those drivers who took their old vehicles off the roads, the Finance Ministry on Monday set up a special committee to examine car taxation and road tax.
All signs point to a fresh burden on taxpayers, given that the fiscal gap requires additional measures.
The ministry’s plans include setting both the commercial tax and road tax of vehicles according to their commercial value.
The new vehicle tax model will be activated within 2016.
