Winter is not over yet. As torrential rain and noticeably lower temperatures hit Chania and most of Crete, there are several reports of localised flooding damage to the road network which has hardly recovered from a long wet winter
Drains in the centre of the town could not cope with the volume of water and several roads and turned to rivers with several calls to the emergency services to pump out flooded basements.
Most of the problems were reported around Gogoni, Nearchou, Polichronidi and in Halepa where an electricity substation flooded resulting in an evening power cut. The fire services responded to at least three emergency calls for people who got trapped in lifts.
The unsettled weather is expected to last till the weekend
