An earthquake which destroyed one of the world’s most beautiful beaches on the Greek island of Lefkáda was captured in a dramatic video by Australian tourist Thomas Verykios.
Voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world by media like CNN and Trip Advisor numerous times, the picturesque beach of Egremni on the island of Lefkada is no more.
The earthquake was marked as 6.1 ‘strong’ on the Richter Scale and brought surrounding cliffs down onto Egremni Beach.
Verykios was fishing at the time when he felt the earthquake hit “under my boat,” according to the description on the Facebook video he uploaded.
“Unbelievable mate, look at the dust coming down, f—k,” he says.
“Look at that, all the way back into town. Look at all the dust coming out there.”
The beach was transformed from a haven of white sand and crystal clear water to an expanse of boulders and rubble in a matter of minutes.
