Police on Crete have stepped up their search for the perpetrator behind the vicious murder of a 71-year-old man in the area of Moires, near Heraklion, on Thursday.
The 71-year-old was found dead in his home on Thursday by his daughter.
He was found with several superficial knife wounds in the throat, chest and stomach. The coroner attributed his death to severe injuries resulting from a beating and concluded that the unfortunate pensioner was tortured to death.
The motive behind the attack remained unclear but police indicated that it was unlikely a robbery as cash was found in the dead man’s trouser pockets and there were no signs that the house had been searched.
The fact that there was no sign of a break-in suggests that the victim knew his attacker, or attackers.
