To Vima — The Police authorities of Crete have dismantled a major arms dealing ring, which had systematically been importing and trading weapons and ammunition since 2007.
The major police operation concluded late on Saturday and resulted in the arrest of 18 Greek nationals, aged 27 to 59, in areas around Chania in Crete and Komotoni. The suspects will face a series of felony and misdemeanour weapons charges.
Among those arrested in the major operation are a Police Sergeant and a Special Guard serving in Crete, as well as one Special Guard station in Attica. A further 28 people are named in case file, who will also face similar charges.
In the police report it was mentioned that 45 pistols, 9 assault rifles, 3 hand grenades, 22 shotguns and over 26,000 rounds of ammunition were seized.
