The rescue operation launched after an alert was raised on Monday reached a successful end on Tuesday evening, when the unnamed Norwegian walker was located to the north of where his signal indicated, near Melidoni in Apokoronas.
In thick fog, fire crews involved in the rescue heard the Norwegians calls for help and managed to locate him at around 6:30 pm.
The rescued man was said to be suffering for hypothermia and was taken to Chania hospital for checks by a Vamos health centre ambulance.
