eKathimerini – There will be no ferry services on Monday and Tuesday after the Panhellenic Seamen’s Union (PNO) on Thursday called a 48-hour strike to start on Monday morning.
The union announced the walkout to protest cuts to seamen’s benefits and high unemployment in the sector while demanding job security.
There were concerns that the walkout could lead to bottlenecks on islands in the eastern Aegean as hundreds of migrants are being transferred to Piraeus on a virtually daily basis.
The aim is for chartered ferries to have transferred as many migrants as possible to the mainland by midnight on Sunday, sources said.
