The European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Pierre Moscovici urged Greek authorities to combat tax evasion, in order to reduce taxes on income.
Mr. Moscovici, who was responding to a question posed by MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis, argued that the reform of tax systems is a national responsibility and stressed that the income tax in Greece may be reduced, provided the efforts in tackling tax evasion and undeclared employment yield results.
Furthermore, the European Commissioner expressed his satisfaction with the Greek government’s intention to carry out reforms aimed at a fair distribution of the tax burden.
The Greek MEP had asked whether the European Commission will support the efforts to reduce the taxation of employees in Greece and create a fair tax system.
