Last Sunday in Apokoronas an audience of 2000 people enjoyed a special evening to honour world famous Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, 90. The event took place in the Embrosneros amphitheatre named after the Greek composer.
The chairman of the council Yannis Apostolakis and Rena Terezaki the deputy mayor who coordinated the event welcomed Theodorakis on behalf of Apokoronas council.
The mayor Babis Koukianakis offered Theodorakis the Key of Apokoronas together with traditional Cretan artefacts, with the composer declaring that this is the best day of his life.
Vamos music ensemble performed a selection of the works of Mikis Theodorakis with the audience and the composer joining in one of his better known songs of resistance based the laureate Elytis’ poem Της Δικαιοσύνης Ήλιε Νοητέ (1964) that like all Theodorakis music was banned during the years of the most recent Greek dictatorship.
