Police on Crete have arrested a man in connection with a shooting early on Saturday which left a 62-year-old cardiologist dead. The victim was ambushed while driving to his village surgery in Pilalimata in Sitia and his body bore several gunshot wounds – three to the back and one to the head.
The arrest was made after the police recovered the murder weapon, a hunting rifle with the suspect’s fingerprints on it, that was abandoned near the murder scene.
According to local news reports the suspect is a 36 man, bulgarian citizen who is said to work for the Bulgarian police force, was later charged with murder. Police are also questioning the 36 year old Bulgarian wife of the victim who is said to know the suspect.
