Majority of Britons oppose 2nd referendum on UK membership of EU

Sputnik — Only three in ten people out of those interviewed by the UK ComRes research company said they supported another nationwide vote, the survey conducted for Independent and the Sunday Mirror revealed late on Saturday.

A nationwide referendum was held in Britain in late June. A total of 51.9 percent of the voters said they were in favor of the United Kingdom leaving the bloc.

Labour party leadership candidate Owen Smith promised on Thursday to call a new referendum on EU membership if elected, as many of those who voted for the country to quit the European Union were misled by the Leave campaign.
