eKathimerini — Judges and prosecutors on Tuesday objected to a proposal by Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis that they be obliged to make public their source of wealth (“pothen esches”) declarations, as politicians currently do, claiming that this would put their safety at risk.
In a letter to Alternate Justice Minister Dimitris Papangelopoulos, six unions representing the country’s judges and prosecutors invoked an existing law that exempts them from making public details about their source of wealth, maintaining that there are “special reasons for which their publication is not advisable.”
They underlined the risk of “crimes or other acts” against them by people involved in lawsuits which they have handled, noting that such attacks have been carried out against judges and prosecutors in the past.
