Express — The Labour leader, who was re-elected, said British manufacturing will be hit “very hard” if negotiators take an all or nothing approach in Brexit talks with the European Union (EU).
Talking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on sunday Mr Corbyn said: “If you go for hard Brexit, which some elements of the Government want to, a huge hit is going to be taken on the manufacturing industry in Britain because the European market, which they rely on extensively – 70 per cent of British exports go to Europe – they’re going to be hit very hard, very badly.
“And if their vision is of Britain, of a sort of tax haven, offshore island from Europe then great levels of inequality and a loss of manufacturing industries – I’m not sure that’s very appetising for most people in this country.”
He said: “People of this country want a deal with Europe which does protect those markets, which does ensure there isn’t this undercutting process, that there is some equality across Europe.
“I’ve been reaching out by meeting members of the party of European Socialists, many whom are in government all across Europe, so we have some kind of a agreement on what sort of future economic relationship we have with Europe – it’s the key question”.
