The number of influenza-related deaths in Greece has jumped to 42, with 4 people having died in one day alone, according to local media sources. Among the victims were two otherwise healthy individuals below the age of 16.
More than 200 people are treated in intensive care units across the country with 14 of them being below the age of 16.
A major concern of doctors and the nation’s medical authorities is that this year’s seasonal influenza seems to be affecting people whose average age is below 60 years of age and who had no prior medical conditions. “An alarming indication of the virulence of the mutated H1N1 strain”, according to medical experts.
