eKathimerini — A weeklong heat wave that has seen daytime highs hovering around the 40-Celsius mark in many parts of the country, also contribute to high ozone levels in the Greek capital.
Health authorities have issued several warnings over the week, advising people suffering from heart or respiratory problems to avoid exertion and over-exposure, as ozone levels passed recommended safety level in northern Athens.
The national meteorological service on Friday reported highs of 38-39C in the capital, saying that while there will be a small dip in temperatures over the weekend, high heat levels will continue next week.
The service has also forecast brief summer showers and storms in western parts of the country over the next few days, particularly in the Ionian islands.
