Minoan Earth an agricultural cooperative made of 117 members across Crete specialising in growing organic prickly pear, avocado and aloe is today launching its new product, Opuntia Spirit The Cretan Tequila.
Opuntia is a prickly pear spirit, made from the fruit of the Opuntia cactus with a flavour is similar to tequila’s.
The product will be officially launched at the 5th “Crete – The Great Meeting” Exhibition to be held on June 2-5 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium of Athens.
Minoan Earth already markets five types of jams, dips, sorbets and ice creams using prickly pear and aloe. A large quantity of their products are exported to Dubai. The cooperative also plans to produce essential oil from the prickly pear seeds.
