eKathimerini — Inspections by representatives of Greece’s National Center for Ecological Research (PAKOE) on popular beaches in Attica have found four to be unfit for swimmers due to high pollution levels.
The PAKOE inspectors conducted their checks at 17 popular Attica beaches, taking water samples from each of the sites for testing.
The beaches found unfit for swimmers are those at Kavouri, Megalo Kavouri, Aghios Nikolaos in Lagonisi and the main beach in Saronida.
Water taken from those beaches tested positive for levels of bacteria higher than the safe maximum stipulated by the European Union.
