First summer heat wave is here

The first heat wave of this summer is under way, with temperatures expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius in certain areas of Greece will reach 39° – 40°C on Friday and Saturday in some areas. The hot weather and is expected to last through Sunday and Monday.

According to meteorologists, areas more affected by the heat wave are the lowlands of Central Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Greece and Peloponnese and highest temperatures are expected in the towns of Larissa, Lamia, Thiva, Trikala, Corinth, Argos and Sparta.

On Crete and the Aegean islands northerly winds of up to 7 BFT will keep the temperature down a couple of degrees but will increase the risk of fires.
