eKathimerini — The General Secretariat of Information and Communication said on Friday that an employee who posted messages on his Twitter account hailing neofascist Golden Dawn and criticizing the mother of leftist rapper Pavlos Fyssas, who was killed by a member of GD, was to face a disciplinary council.
The council is to decide on whether the employee, Petros Kormikiaris, should be dismissed from his post for posting a series of incendiary messages on Twitter that fueled widespread outrage on the social media network.
In a posting on Friday, as Fyssas’s mother testified in court during the ongoing trial of Golden Dawn MPs and members, Kormikiaris accused her of “more mawkish melodrama” and claimed her murdered son’s songs had been “provocative.” In an older tweet he had hailed GD’s strong performance in recent elections.
In a statement, the secretariat noted that Kormikiaris is not a journalist and that his expressed opinions in no way bear on the position of the secretariat which condemned them.
State Minister Nikos Pappas, who oversees the secretariat, called for the employee to face a tribunal which is to decide on his fate.
