eKathimerini — The owners of illegally built or altered residences on Monday were granted an extension to the deadline by which they must declare their properties in order to save them from demolition.
The extension, to October 8, was issued through a joint ministerial decision signed by Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, Energy Minister Panos Skourletis and Alternate Environment Minister Yiannis Tsironis and was expected to be published in the Government Gazette.
According to recent figures, since the law allowing these properties to be declared was passed in 2013, 986,693 properties have been registered, out of which 265,190 have been processed and saved.
More than 1.5 billion euros has been paid to the state in the form of penalties, while another 1.8 billion euros is due to be paid, authorities said.
