eKathimerini — The possibility of creating a camp with a capacity of hosting up to 400,000 refugees and migrants in Athens was raised by Belgian Minister of Interior Jan Jambon on Monday at a European Union summit focusing on the refugee and migrant crisis, Greece’s Immigration Policy Minister Yiannis Mouzalas revealed on Tuesday.
Speaking on Skai TV, Mouzalas voiced his concern regarding the future of the Schengen Agreement, adding that Greece was facing “a difficult situation.”
Mouzalas said the idea of a possible exchange of Greek debt relief against the country hosting refugees, which according to the Financial Times was being examined by EU officials, was “outrageous.”
The minister added that the construction of hot spots for registering and processing migrants and refugees would be finalized by the end of February and that the centers would be fully operative by early May.
