Chania city council decided to light the Lighthouse of the Venetian Port with the colours of the French flag during the weekend.
The Mayor of Chania, Mr. Tassos Vamvoukas made an official announcement on the council’s decision to honour the victims of the terrorist attack in the French capital : ” Chania council is standing by the people of France in this time of grief. The decision to light the Venetian lighthouse in the colours of the French flag is our mark of respect to the memories of the victims of this horrific attack.
“The mourning of the French people is also our mourning. We will stand together and will mot allow the dark forces of hate to destroy our values of freedom and democracy, values born in ancient Greece which were expressed through French enlightenment”
“European countries should not allow fear and blind fanaticism to win”, Mr Vamvoukas continued. ” Europe should not and will not allow anyone kill freedom and democracy.”
