Chania Airport passenger numbers in decline

Chania international airport

Chania airport is underperforming by comparison to other Fraport managed regional airports in Greece. The disappointing figures are largely attributed to the departure of Ryan Air from Chania resulting in domestic arrivals dropping by 39% compared to the previous June.

International arrivals present a better picture with a 12% increase in passenger numbers but the overall traffic shows a 0.3% decline.

By contrast, the other 13 regional Fraport airports show an average increase of 10.9% in passenger traffic.

And while Chania has not yet managed to find a carrier to replace Ryanair, Heraklion airport attracts yet more air lines, with Volotea the latest to offer both domestic and international low cost flights. Ryanair has already been offering an Athens – Heraklion service.
