Hellenic Coast Guard on Sunday intercepted and carried out a search on the Togo flagged general cargo vessel TRADER (also by the name of KUKI BOY) following information received by the Greek Intelligence Service.
On board Coast Guard officers with the help of specially trained dogs discovered two containers containing guns, explosives and ammunition.
TRADER was escorted to Souda port where it is held while the investigations continue.
According to information released by the Coastguard, TRADER departed from the port of Mirsina, Turkey and was heading to Lebanon with final destination the north African coast, with 11 crew members on board – 6 Syrian, 4 Indian and 1 Lebanese nationals.
