Athens gets its first smart bus and trolley stops

ANA-MPA — Athens got its first smart bus and trolley stops on Monday which inform commuters about arrival times and cater to the disabled.

Special screens show commuters the route of their bus or trolley and expected arrival times at each stop. Audio information is provided for the disabled and the blind at the press of a button, while a new app for smartphones and tablets allows users to track their bus or trolley and its time of arrival.

According to the Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA), 1,150 vehicles out of a fleet of 2,000 are currently equipped with a computer, a driver’s console and a screen. All 2,000 (1,750 buses and 250 trolleys) are due to be included in the system by April.
