To Vima — A group of 150 asylum seekers from Afghanistan and Pakistan claim that they were handcuffed for the duration of their trip, from the island Lesvos to the port of Piraeus.
According to the refugees, they were bound with disposable handcuffs for the duration of voyage. Upon arrival they were transferred from the port to detention centers with police vans.
The spokesperson for the coordinating body on the refugee crisis Giorgos Kyritsis has denied the allegations, noting that the 150 were handcuffed during their transportation from the port of Piraeus to the detention center in Corinth.
Furthermore, Mr. Kyritsis explained that the 150 refugees were not handcuffed during the boat trip, as that is against the law, but rather they were kept isolated and under police supervision.
